July 2010 California Roadshow

Four outdoor architectural projections

Throughout the month of July 2010, Obscura Digital hit the road on a four-city Building Projection tour throughout California. With our digital paintbrush we completely transformed the San Francisco Legion of Honor, Old Town Sacramento’s Union Hotel, 700 feet of San Diego’s 900-foot long ship, the USS Midway, and in Los Angeles, on the Walt Disney Concert Hall designed by Frank Gehry. On each building we projected eight to ten minutes of custom media specifically mapped to the unique façade of each location.

Every night of the roadshow the building projections were streamed live on our Client’s website for fans to view and vote for their favorite projection.

With 18 to 20 thousand lumens of HD projection power running on as many as 10 projectors per location, two-days of rigging and calibration set-up in each city, and two months of media development time using 3D Studio Max, Flash, Particle Illustrator, and Algodoo, the end result was nothing short of magical.
